Works less than a year
This review is from: Qwest Actiontec PK5000 DSL Modem 4 Port Wireless Router (Personal Computers)
I installed the PK5000 to replace an older Qwest modem. Installation was ok, speed was ok, and very few problems for 10 months. Then it started dropping wireless connections, requiring a power cycle to recover.

Then it stopped allowing access to all but 1 of my wireless computers, even after power cycling. And the 1 it did allow was losing connections up to 6 times a day. Then it started losing the DSL connection about every 2 or 3 months, which can only be corrected by power cycling it numerous times, until it re-engages. I spent several hours on the phone and email with support, but it didn't resolve within 2 calls, so I stopped messing with them.

I disabled the wireless feature, and connected a Linksys wireless access point I still had from the system it replaced. The PK5000 still drops the DSL link every few months, but I'll tolerate that until I feel like I've gotten my $100 out of it. The designers of this one need to go back to school.

Do not buy if you want to stream media to your Xbox 360

This review is from: Qwest Actiontec PK5000 DSL Modem 4 Port Wireless Router (Personal Computers)
I bought this from Qwest and wasted at least an hour trying to get it set up to stream to my Xbox 360. It turns out that this device doesn't support multicast, which what the Xbox needs for media streaming, so it's worthless to me. (Do a search for "PK5000 Xbox multicast" to see what I mean.) I've read that other technologies, such as Apple's Bonjour, use multicast as well, so if you intend to use this device for network streaming, look elsewhere. Now I've got to return this to Qwest and find a better modem.

Excellent DSL modem/router

This review is from: Qwest Actiontec PK5000 DSL Modem 4 Port Wireless Router (Personal Computers)
This Actiontec PK5000 modem/router for Qwest subscribers is an excellent product. Setting it up was fairly easy, after setting it up I removed the Qwest installer program which was no longer necessary. It is a major improvement from the older Actiontec modem/router I had been using. It emits a stronger consistent signal and uses the better WPA encryption format. I primarily upgraded to this product to better stream Netflix movies on my blu ray player, which works great. The cost was approximate $30 less expensive then ordering it through Qwest or purchasing it at one of their retail stores.

Speedy Shipment
The router came quite quickly and it was in perfect condition. Set up was a breeze but the only thing missing was the phone line for connection. I assumed it was included.

PK5000 is a bit of a flawed product.
The speeds are ok, the connectivity is fine, HOWEVER advanced features can bug it out like nobody's business.

My QWest Q1000 decided to quit late Friday night. Went through over an hour of trouble-shooting with Qwest and my ISP and nothing.
